What to Expect at Pacung Rice Terrace

The rural areas of Bali are very famous for its natural beauty and cultural richness that is still well preserved. Visitors can explore deeper and discover the beauty, something that not everyone can see. The ease of access has become a bit of a challenge, compared to several tourist attractions such as Kuta, Sanur, and other urban areas of Bali. Perhaps this causes the rural areas not to erode or change. Pacung Rice Terrace has the same route with several other tourist attractions, such as Bedugul, Ulun Danu Bratan, Buyan and Tamblingan Lake and several tourist attractions in the northern part of Bali.

Its strategic location worthy of your choice and several attractions can be visited in one go. Pacung rice terrace is unique and only found at several locations in Bali. Its terracing system is formed from a piece of sloped plane that has been cut into a series of successively receding flat surfaces or platforms. Terracing is commonly used on hilly or mountainous terrain. This system is claimed to decrease both erosion and surface runoff, and used to support growing crops that require irrigation (such as rice). The traditional irrigation system of rice terraces in Bali is managed by a community group called Subak, which was developed in the 9th century.

Farmers in Bali understand that irrigation is not just providing water for the plant root, but the water is also used to construct a complex, pulsed artificial ecosystem. The rice paddies, water for irrigation, and water control system (subak) have together shaped the landscape of Bali over the past thousand years.
